Michael Azuma is a 23-year-old artist/producer/engineer from Pleasanton, California. Armed with his first DJ controller at the age of 13, he began weaving and layering vocals and instrumentals to create mashups, slowly learning the basics of music production. In high school, he was inspired by the sounds of Skrillex, Porter Robinson, and Madeon, sparking his interest in making his own electronic music. Michael’s versatility has helped him stay competitive in today’s ever-changing music industry. His sound samples a wild blend of sonic influences ranging from Hip-hop/Rap to K-Pop to EDM. Since graduating from USC’s Thornton School of Music with Honors, Michael has been pitching demos for the Japanese, Korean, and Chinese markets while working on his various artist projects. He continues to develop his own multifaceted sound, never tied down to a single identity, genre, or project.
Michael currently works on various artist projects, each capturing a different facet of his musical tastes and identity:
HASHON [橋本], an Electronic project that focuses on reconnecting to one’s origins through a combination of sonic textures, atmospheric sounds, and soothing vocals.
AZU [東], an Electronic project that draws on complex synth layering, foley elements from nature, and atmospheric pads, to create beautiful, immersive, and passionate soundscapes.
WABI-SABI [侘寂], a Lofi / Electronic project based on the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi / 侘寂 — a world view centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection.
CLUB YOKAI [妖怪], a Japanese-American producer duo crafting their own unique blend of R&B and Hip-Hop with sounds imported from Japan and America.
Michael has had the pleasure of working with artists like Flowsik, Haiden, and Kabwasa as well as brands like Amazon Prime Video, Breathwrk, and Genshin Impact.

For mixing and mastering, I will need all the stems labeled (name of instrument, key, and tempo) at 48kHz sample rate, 24 bit with at least 6dB of headroom. For production work, I will need a playlist of 3-5 songs you want to take inspiration from.
We are using Yamaha HS8’s monitors with an Apogee Duet 2 as the audio interface. We are also equipped with a Shure SM7B and Shure SM58 for microphones. We also use a pair of Beyerdynamic DT990 for open-back monitoring and Audio-Technica ATH-M50 for closed-back monitoring and recording. Generally, I like figuring out what direction an artist is trying to go for. From there it’s a lot easier to figure out how the mix, master, and overall vibe should sound like. Generally, I like to spend a while on the mixing process before approaching the mastering process (This gives me enough time to let my ears rest and to be able to listen critically). I’ve had the pleasure of working with artists like Flowsik, Haiden, and Kabwasa as well as brands like Amazon Prime Video, Breathwrk, and Genshin Impact.
